| Modern melodic death metal from Sweden, latest full-length album released in 2012.
To give you a brief summary of this review, I could say that this album sounds soft for a melodeath album, and because of it sounding that way, criticism is bound to appear with this album.
Firstly, the music really is far from your average and conventional melodic death metal. Heck, I myself don’t even know if this still is a melodeath album. Sure, the grunts and some of the screams really do sound "death metal”, but I can’t say the same thing to the scruffy singing and to the high-pitched screams. In addition, the album’s overall sound sounds closed to hard rock (especially the riffs), being less dissonant, although the last few songs are more akin to melodeath. However, just because this album sounds like this doesn’t mean it sucks.
Although I agree that the music somewhat defeats the purpose of Avatar being a melodic death metal band, I could say that this album is rather good, especially in moderate doses, although you can’t deny one of the many flaws here, like having filler parts on some songs. I’m sure that this album won’t be appreciated much, but if you have an open mind (and the tolerance, if you’re much used to death metal), then give this CD a listen.
